Organised by POC POC II (THE CONSTANT NOW)
Get carried away by Fatemeh Towhidloo and Forough Jalilian's visual correspondence in There Are Many Ways of Remembering on Friday, 28 July at 19:30.
The video work is a daily documentation of life communicated from a distance between Towhidloo (based in Ghent) and Jalilian (based in Tehran). Their exchanges are reactions to the reality of being apart. Despite the geographical distance, they still have the desire to share ideas and reflections about everything that stimulate their life. Inspired by the genre of diary film, these videos are moving portraits of their search for coexistence, glimpses of togetherness, and details of daily life.
There Are Many Ways of Remembering: Visual Correspondence is part of an ongoing series of personal experimental video works, involving the exchange of visual letters between Towhidloo and Jalilian. Their exploration revolves around the theme of “In/Out”, inspired by relocation and expressive response to the experience of separation and “otherness”.
Fatemeh Towhidlou is a Tehran/Gent-based artist and MFA graduate from KASK and Conservatorium. She works at the intersection between verbal and visual to question/re-visit communication and narrations through exploring intimacy, and the boundaries between theory and practice. She prefers to position herself as a collaborator.
