Join us on Friday 28 July at 20:00 for a collective drawing session with Antwerp based painter Souhaila Maalem.
While we'll paint with Indian ink under the guidance of Maalem, she'll talk about her artistic practice and sources of inspiration. Born in Belgium but strongly connected with her Moroccan heritage, Maalem finds creativity in Morocco's architecture, nature and vibrant colors. Growing closer to her family in Morocco over the years, she draws great inspiration from her loved ones: her husband and the women who have raised her in particular.
The drawing session will take place in the monastery garden - shared by Kunsthal Extra City and MORPHO - where the vegetation and the aura of the evening will serve as loose inspiration to freely draw summer nocturnals.
The conversation will be moderated by assistant curator and exhibition producer Zuzanna Rachowska, but all attendees are encouraged to actively participate in the conversation.
