20:00: lecture by Wouter Davidts

'Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in'

"Corners are everywhere", so states the first sentence of the exhibition guide to 'The Corner Show'. The figure and the space of the corner are ominpresent: "Not only rooms have corners, but so do streets, objects, paintings, screens and pages." Building upon the insights gained while making the exhibition 'The Corner Show', Wouter Davidts will gather in this lecture a set of works, projects, images, texts, and situations that further calibrate our understanding and knowledge of the reality of the corner.

Wouter Davidts (BE, lives in Antwerp) teaches at the Department of Architecture & Urban Planning, Ghent University (UGent) and the Drama Department of the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He is the author of 'Bouwen voor de kunst?' (A&S/books, 2006) and edited 'The Fall of the Studio' (Valiz, 2009; with Kim Paice), 'CRACK: Koen van den Broek' (Valiz, 2010), and most recently, 'Luc Deleu – T.O.P. office: Orban Space' (Valiz, 2012; with Guy Châtel & Stefaan Vervoort). He curated 'The Corner Show' (Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerp, BE, Fall 2015; with Philip Metten and Mihnea Mircan). Currently he is working on a book-length project on size in scale in the postwar era. www.wouterdavidts.com

21:00: lecture by Moritz Küng

'The Umbrella Corner – Where’s Al?'

Curator Moritz Küng was invited by the gallery ProjecteSD in Barcelona to create the group exhibition 'The Umbrella Corner'. He did not choose to make this exhibition in the usual gallery space, but preferred the recess of only 1/2 m2 in the hall, next to the umbrella stand. This space offered an adequate context for a series of solo exhibitions with Willem Oorebeek (NL), Pierre Leguillon (FR), Sophie Nys (BE), Dora García (ES) and Matt Mullican (US) that connected somehow with a key work of conceptual art: the work 'Where's Al?' (1972) by North-American artist Allen Ruppersberg. The series experienced a climax in the presentation of the almost unknown second version 'Where's Al - part II, The Sequel' (1998). In his lecture 'The Umbrella Corner – Where’s Al?' Moritz Küng talks about the speculative and unambiguous stories of the artworks and the spatial and financial context; in other words the Genius Loci inside an exhibition concept.

Moritz Küng (CH, lives in Barcelona) is an independent curator and editor, on the interface between architecture and visual arts. He curated exhibitions for the Belgian Pavilion of the Biennial in Sao Paulo (2002) and the Architecture Biennale in Venice (2008), the group show 'Die Fünfte Säule' in Secession in Vienna (2011), the collection of in situ works 'Curating the Campus' at deSingel in Antwerp (2004-2014) and the exhibition 'Our Art' of the graphic designers Mevis & van Deursen at the Brno Biennial (2014).
