Opening Antwerp Queer Arts Festival

With performances by Sarjon Azouz & Krzysztof Leon Dziemaszkiewicz

04.08.2023, 18:00 — 23:00 Opening

Organised by Antwerp Queer Arts Festival

Antwerp Queer Arts Festival is back at Extra City & Morpho serving you a group exhibition featuring Alexandra Fraser, Sarjon Azouz, Marijn Kuijper and Nina Vandenbempt. You are welcome on Friday, August 4, for the opening. This will be extra special with a performance by Sarjon Azouz and Krzysztof Leon Dziemaskiewicz.

_Sarjon (They/Them) is a multidisciplinary artist, working with vanity as a research space in identity politics. Across durational mediums of performance, writing and audio-visual research, Sarjon’s practice uses accelerationist methods to conduct spaces of dialogue between their many alter egos. In storytelling, Sarjon pulls focus on the characters as political consequences of the stories they tell. Building worlds in the post-narrative which mostly involve real life social and cultural constructions, they challenge the audience to trace back their own agency and impact on these worlds.

Also performing is Berlin-based Polish performance artist Krzysztof Leon Dziemaskiewicz. Leon pushes the boundaries between art and life, questioning in his work the borders between animals and humanity. His performance is dedicated to his big love, Manfred Thierry Mugler who died January 23 2022. Later this weekend at De Cinema the documentary LEON, featuring Dziemaszkiewicz will premiere in Belgium.
