Museumnacht at Kunsthal Extra City

01.08.2026 — 02.08.2026 Nocturne

This year marks the 20th edition of Museumnacht and for the first time Kunsthal Extra City is taking part. From 7 pm until 1 am, we invite you to experience our exhibitions in a different way: through short guided tours, a programme of analogue horror films, a drink at Dennis Tyfus' No Choice Bar, and a poetic finale by Antwerp's Poet Laureate Esohe Weyden.

Discover the full programme below.

7.30 pm – 12.30 am | Cursed Media with Tom Volkaert & Matias Canteros

Artists Tom Volkaert and Matias Canteros present a selection of their favourite analogue horror films found online. This popular DIY horror genre, often referred to as creepypasta, uses modest production techniques to create atmospheric stories featuring recurring characters. Analogue horror has grown into a global phenomenon and serves as an informal collective archive of contemporary myth-making.

7.30 pm – 12.30 am | No Choice Bar by Dennis Tyfus

Antwerp-based artist Dennis Tyfus has previously introduced a No Choice restaurant, tattoo parlour and taxi service. For Museumnacht, Kunsthal Extra City is delighted to welcome Tyfus' No Choice Bar. Order a drink chosen entirely by the bartender, all at affordable prices. Take the plunge and enjoy a cocktail created especially for you – with the surprise being part of the experience.

7.30 pm – 11.30 pm | Speed Tour through the expo of Sammy Baloji

Join a 30-minute speed tour of Copper thread, Rubber thread, Sugar thread, the exhibition by artist and filmmaker Sammy Baloji. Through tapestries and sound installations, Baloji intertwines material, image and voice to explore the history of colonial exploitation in Central Africa and its lasting impact today.

Tours start at 7.30 pm, 10 pm and 11 pm and are scheduled to complement the speed tours of Biophony by Antwerp Queer Arts Festival, allowing visitors to experience both exhibitions consecutively.

8 pm – 11.30 pm | Speed Tour – Biophony

Biophony can also be explored during Museumnacht through a 30-minute speed tour. The exhibition brings together the work of twelve artists who are also volunteers with Antwerp Queer Arts Festival. There is no overarching theme; instead, the exhibition reflects a shared artistic practice and a commitment to making things together.

Tours start at 8 pm, 9.30 pm, 10.30 pm and 11.30 pm.

8.30 pm – 9.30 pm | Poetry Performance by Esohe Weyden

Enjoy a special poetry performance by Antwerp's Poet Laureate Esohe Weyden, accompanied by guitarist Sam Wuyts. After the performance, there will be a Q&A session followed by a book signing.
