Launch Grounds #1

A new platform for artistic research of SLARG

29.05.2025, 17:00 — 19:00 Bookpresentation

Organised by Sint Lucas Antwerpen Research Group

On Thursday, 29 May from 17:00 to 19:00, we’re celebrating the launch of Grounds #1, the new research journal from the Sint Lucas Antwerp Research Group (SLARG), at Kunsthal Extra City. Grounds builds on the legacy of TYPP, offering a broad perspective on artistic research.

The title refers to diverse “grounds” of inquiry—material, conceptual, and more. Rather than showcasing final results, it highlights artistic research as an evolving process of exchange and discovery.

For this first edition, four researchers will bring their work to life in the choir of Extra City:

  • Pierre-Antoine Vettorello maps the history of African textile shops in Paris through a photo slideshow and location mapping.
  • Joud Toamah reads from her hybrid essay on memory and water cultures in Syria, with a looping short film.
  • Bianca Baldi explores ‘racial passing’ and fluid identity through an experimental lecture performance.
  • Mona Hedayati opens with a short performance, followed by a conversation on the affective frequencies of migration.

Artist and researcher Jonathan Cant (aka Nillies Nihilist / cratje) will play a DJ set based on his contribution to AdMa TYPP. Together with Laura Conant, he runs Brussels-based label and party series MONTAGE. His research explores how sound intersects with identity, politics, and class, and how music scenes shape collective identity.

Meet the researchers, enjoy a drink, and pick up a free copy of Grounds #1. A perfect stop during Antwerp Art Weekend!
