Homesick Tea Gathering

Garden tour and tea ceremony with Kapinga J. Muela Kabeya and Eline De Clercq

18.05.2024, 16:00 — 17:00 Artistic intervention

Kapinga J. Muela Kabeya and Eline De Clercq invite you to 'Homesick Tea Gathering'' for a cup of tea in the monastery garden of MORPHO and Kunsthal Extra City. Join them on Saturday 18 May from 4 to 5 pm.

During the gathering, Kapinga and Eline will tell you about the wild plants in the Gesamthof, a lesbian garden. This part of the garden is a small haven for wild life and is a safe(er) space for plants and birds. The garden houses an interesting combination of plants rooted in historical and local ecologies. The artistic duo will create an original tea tea by talking about its travel stories. In the garden, they will thus create the flavour of a global dialogue and share it with you and the other participants.

Kapinga J. Muela Kabeya (she/her) explores a versatile practice rooted in questions about her existence in a society that often overlooks her. She takes time for this exploration, and her creations stem from explorations of connection, nourishment, spirituality, rituals, intimacy, femininity, and identity as a queer person of color.

Eline De Clercq (she/her) is a painter, researcher, and gardener. Her practice revolves around diversity and habitat, among people and in gardens. At the core of her practice lies a curiosity about more-than-human kinship. Eline connects representations of the LGBTQIA+ community with the recognition of plants and ecological connections. Since 2019, Eline has been managing "De Gesamthof, a lesbian garden," a nature & art project in the monastery garden.
