FairCoin is a digital currency supported by a global cooperative grassroots movement. The currency offers an alternative way for organizing economic relations based on cooperation. It’s aim is enabling equality and the creation of a fair economy.

With the FairCoin one can buy goods and services on the FairMarket, an online marketplace. In order to control and maintain the FairCoin and FairMarket there exists a network of local ‘nodes’. These nodes are assemblies of minimum three people who discuss who can become a merchant for the FairMarket in the local region, and who also actively search for existing local merchants who would be interesting to have in the FairMarket as well.

The FairCoin exemplifies an interesting way to relate the local sphere with the global sphere.

The aim of this event is to contextualize the FairCoin/Fairmarket system, and to launch a local node for the region of Flanders.
