On Sunday 11 October 2015 - Architecture Day - you can look behind the scenes in a wide range of buildings in Brussels and throughout Flanders. On this occasion Extra City Kunsthal is open from 10:00 until 18:00 and curator Wouter Davidts will give a guided tour at 14:00 and at 16:00 through the exhibition 'The Corner Show'. This group exhibition examines the space and figure of the corner in art and architecture. Within a scenography devised by the artist Philip Metten, 'The Corner Show' brings together existing, adapted and commissioned works.

The challenge Philip Metten faced in the design for ‘The Corner Show’ consisted in developing a type of exhibition architecture that would gain sculptural autonomy and visual identity yet at the same time would provide a generous setting for the other artists and their work. To that end, the artist returned to the drawing that served as the basis for the much-praised renovation of the Homey bar in Antwerp (‘Bar’, 2013). While the drawing in the bar was extruded horizontally to form an interior, Metten now opted for a vertical extrusion to form a vestibule and a collection of wall elements that were distributed throughout space – a three-dimensional tangram of sorts. Metten put a toolkit of architectural elements at the disposal of the curators so that they could compose a varied exhibition environment. The rich and often surprising range of wall shapes made it possible to generate a wide array of corners and ‘corner situations’, in a critical dialogue with the selected artists on the one hand and in a productive confrontation with the artworks on the other.
