Extra Academy is een spontane alliantie tussen Extra City, de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten en Sint-Lucas Antwerpen.

Based in Bangkok, Thailand, Phinthong creates porous situations where the visitor is invited to fill the semantic gaps and share the experience of the work thus co-produced. His projects function as set designs, fictions, processes that test our perceptual capabilities, or the interplay of memory and subjective response. These dialogic situations open the practice to the social field, where identities are made and unmade in relation to economic and cultural representations. Phinthong views the 'gallery’ as open space, reconfigured in a dynamic that unites different realities: geographical points, societies, economic systems.

Phinthong has recently participated in Documenta 13 (2012), the New Museum Triennial (2012) and the Singapore Biennial (2006). He has had solo shows at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo (2011), and the Centre d’Art Contemporain, Brétigny (2010).
